Kits

They were very curious about us and stared at us as much as we stared at them!

My coworker Amy is an amazingly talented photographer, although with models like these, it's hard to go wrong! We started noticing fox kits in the oilfields in June. Some of the dens were not far from the road and we'd park the truck and just watch! Here are Arctic Fox and Red Fox kits. And some play time! The kits would wait at the den while the parents were off hunting or visiting their caches. We often marveled at how the kits instinctively knew not to wander off. Once we saw a parent return to the den with a cached lemming. But the kits didn't eat it, they just used it like a ball, throwing it in the air and catching it. Very cute.
