I finally made it out to the Wildlife Conservation Center, which is located just outside of Anchorage near Girdwood.  The center takes in orphaned and injured wildlife year-round, and animals that can't be released are given a permanent home at the center.  It's nothing like a zoo--animals are contained within acres of land, and you can either walk or drive through.  If you're lucky, animals will be near their fences, because with that much space, you could miss them.  State troopers bring road kill to the facility, which is common in that area, and I made it just in time for a road kill feeding, which was really lucky.   Although I must admit, I think I enjoyed the porcupine the most!

burger bus

I recently returned from Fairbanks, and this drive through restaurant is on the route, near Willow, a few hours north of Anchorage. This is a pretty common sight around these parts, although I admit this one is a bit more special than some of the others.  I think Alaskans don't necessarily want to get out of their cars to get a coffee or a little sustenance (especially during the long winter months), and since there are so many "huts" and drive-throughs, owners try to make them visually enticing.  This is definitely one of my favorites.  I'll be working a production job for a while so probably posting will be sparse, but I will make an effort to post some summery stuff!

Summer is here!

It's almost surreal to see all that green!
