Chignik is a pretty small village, and every business doubles as someone's house.  Here is the store (with the carving "Our Store" on the outside and a thriving plant on the inside) and the Post Office (note the dog on the roof).

I didn't think it would be possible to find a smaller airport than Port Moller's, but here is the Chignik International Airport!

There is a hike in Chignik that is so vertical you basically have to just walk up a ladder.   I heard after I took the hike that no one does it without a gun, which seems a bit excessive to me.  I guess later in the season the alders fill out and that's when it gets a little dicey with possible bear surprises.  The pipe to the left of the ladder comes from the reservoir which supplies water to all of Chignik. The view is well worth the climb!

Okay, I have wireless but it's slooow.  This is me and Zoey on my last day at Sand Point.

Unfortunately I have been unable to "borrow" wireless internet from Chignik, so it looks like blogging will be on hold for at least a month unless I can crack the code. Chignik is beautiful and dramatic, with huge vertical mountains surrounding it. I have a great apartment to myself with a living room, bedroom, cable tv and my own bathroom, which is a big deal around here. My boss has a beautiful Black Lab/Akita mix that I can "borrow" for walks any time I want to, and today I made it out to the first test fishery, which was about a 45 minute skiff ride to Chignik Lagoon. So the summer is starting out well. Hope yours is, too! Check back in a month or so!

The weather finally cleared up yesterday so we took a nice hike to Sand Dollar Beach in Sand Point, which was a new discovery for me.  I was supposed to leave for Chignik today but once again we are socked in and the pilot probably won't make it here from Kodiak until tomorrow, Hurry up and wait is our motto.  Sand Point is a lovely place to wait, though, so I'm not complaining!

Not much to report from the lovely town of Sand Point.  The weather has been cold, rainy and socked in for three days, but supposedly that's going change within a day or two.  I took so many pictures here last year that I will probably just post some of those, not much has changed!  It's the kind of town where dogs are allowed to run free, which of course is a huge selling point for me! Here are two dogs taking a stroll down by the harbor and checking out a local church.
